Drumming Retreat in the Magical Light of the Midnight Sun 7. - 9.6.2024

Join us for a magical drumming retreat in the summer nature of Lapland. During the retreat you will make your own traditional Lapland drum. The drum is made using traditional methods, the frame of the drum is made of wood and the drum membrane is made of reindeer skin, which is dyed with natural vegetable dyes. You will learn to use the drum as a healing tool and learn to play and care for it. You will participate in the dedication ceremony of the drum.

You get to participate in empowering light nature rituals, relax on drumming trips, enjoy the cleansing baths of a traditional sauna, and enjoy the company of like-minded people without forgetting the delicious hut meals.

The retreat culminates in joint drumming at Pallas Taivaskero fell in the strong energy and light of the midnight sun.

Where?

In Lapland, in the landscapes of Levi.
In the village of Köngäs and in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park.

What?

Day 1. Fri 7.6. Descent into the energies of Lapland and the start of making the drum

Arrival in Taivaanvalkeat, Köngäs village on the banks of Ounasjoki river. In the boutique hotel Taivaanvalkeat, the mind rests and not even the sky is a limit for the powerful and purifying energies that the Tonttula experience village area brings to life. The hundred-year-old log houses and beach sauna create a magical setting for a retreat.

The invigorating and cleansing energy drink of Lapland welcomes everyone in place. We take part in a relaxing drum trip that calms our minds and allows us to descend into the energies of Lapland.

The production of the drum begins. Along with making the drum, we learn about the history, stories and use of the drum.

For dinner, nutritious food consisting of local products is offered. The evening culminates in the gentle, embracing steams of a traditional beach sauna where we pamper us with peat masks and herbal foot baths. The bravest can take a dip in Ounasjoki river. Purified and empowered by the sauna, the spring water cools our bodies and it's nice to go out into the dream land, with a grateful heart.

Day 2. Sat 8.6. Drum course, consecration of the drum and Lapland's ancient cleansing wind, the power of the midnight sun and the chain of seven fells

The morning starts with a delicious breakfast and drumming relaxation.

We continue to complete the drums. Soup lunch in Tonttula, after which the drumming course continues.

In the afternoon, when the drums are finished, we will go to the mythical chain of seven fells, to the wonderful landscapes of Pallas. We all gather together around the fire in the hut for the dedication ceremony of the drums. New drums are consecrated and old ones are cleaned for new energy. Here, at the source of the world's cleanest air, we take a leisurely walk across the tree line to the holy spring. We prepare a tasty meal together in an atmospheric hut at the foot of Pallas.

After the meal, we hike to Taivaskero, where we drum at midnight to the powerful magical sunlight. The sun's light channels us with new cleansing energy, creativity and strengthens our own heart energy.

Arctic nature is powerful, magically beautiful, and from the great fells of Lapland, the whole of Lapland opens up in front of our eyes. We thank Mother Earth and return to the village of Köngäs to Taivaanvalkeat with new energy and fall into a peaceful sleep.

Day 3. Sun 9.6. Final words and silence for gratitude

On the last morning of the course, we fell silent in gratitude for the experiences and insights we gained together. After a late breakfast, retreat closing circle and handover of rooms. See you again!

Heidi Jokela is Polar Star Travel's bright entrepreneur and nature connection guide. His love for Lapland's arctic nature has brought him from Europe to Levi. Heidi has found a magical power in nature. He likes to drum at home by the fire. Invigorating drum relaxation and movement in nature is his way of letting go of the busy everyday life of an entrepreneur.

Lilja Takalo has drawn information on making the drum and improving it from the hereditary knowledge related to the improvement of her family and from numerous courses. In the drum courses, drums are made following the traditions of Lapland and in addition to making drums, the courses also teach how to use the drum. "Drumming is a universal phenomenon. It relaxes, invigorates and removes tension," sums up Lilja. Lilja has also done nursing work on a drum for a long time.

For those looking for their own way, Lilja gives one tip. "Don't believe it if someone says you can't live your dream. You can also make a profession out of a hobby."
