Over the past years, an extensive network of MTB routes has been developed, and cycling is now allowed in several national parks. This opens the door to something truly special: multi-day riding through vast fell landscapes, untouched wilderness, and remote Arctic regions.

This adventure takes place in Fell Lapland, near the borders of Finland and Norway, and leads you through some of the most iconic areas in the North: Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area, Enontekiö, Muonio, Ylläs, Levi, and the Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park. You’ll ride in open tundra, quiet forests, national parks, and along historic post routes..

If you appreciate authentic accommodation, simple comforts, sauna evenings, good food, and the company of like-minded adventurers, this journey offers a rare chance to experience Lapland in its purest form — on two wheels, far from crowds.

Day-by-day adventure program

Day 0 – Arrival in Levi

Arrive in Levi by plane to Kittilä Airport, or independently by train (via Kolari or Rovaniemi). Transfers to accommodation are arranged.

In the afternoon, we gather for a welcome briefing where we go through the week’s routes, safety aspects, schedules, and logistics. Bikes are handed out, adjustments are made, and you’ll have time to prepare your gear for the first riding day. The day ends with a welcome dinner at a local restaurant, setting the tone for the adventure ahead.

If you arrive in Levi earlier, we can also arrange additional accommodation and optional activities at an extra cost, allowing you to settle in, explore the area, and start the adventure relaxed and well-prepared.

Day 1 – Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness: Riding the Arctic silence

After breakfast, we travel to Näkkälä, a small Sámi reindeer village near the Finnish–Norwegian border. From here, the adventure truly begins.

We ride through the Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area, one of Finland’s most remote and untouched landscapes. Sandy tracks shaped by the Ice Age, small wilderness ponds, and vast treeless tundra stretch endlessly around us. The silence is profound, and the air is among the cleanest in the world.

The day’s ride (approx. 15 km) follows traditional routes once used by reindeer herders. We visit a Sámi sacred site (seita) and finish at the shores of Pöyrisjärvi, where we stay overnight in a simple wilderness accommodation.
Evening activities include swimming, fishing, exploring the surroundings, and enjoying a nutritious campfire dinner by the lake.

Day 2 – Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park

We start the day with a calm breakfast in the wilderness before returning to Näkkälä and continuing by vehicle to Hetta. Here we visit the Fell Lapland Nature Centre, enjoy lunch, and learn more about Sámi culture and fell nature.

In the afternoon, we head into Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park, Finland’s most iconic national park. This is a physically demanding but incredibly rewarding riding day, featuring open fell plateaus, technical climbs, and some of the most breathtaking views in the country.

After descending from the fells, we transfer to our accommodation by Lake Jerisjärvi. The evening is dedicated to recovery in an Arctic sauna world, with multiple traditional saunas and refreshing lake dips.

Day 3 – Jerisjärvi to Ylläs

After breakfast, we ride toward Ylläs and Äkäslompolo, following a mix of paved sections, forest tracks, and flowing single- and double-track trails in fell terrain.
The day ends in a traditional Lapland accommodation with sauna and dinner, surrounded by the calm of the fells.

Day 4 – Ylläs to Levi

Today we tackle the famous Ylläs–Levi MTB route, one of Finland’s most diverse long-distance mountain bike routes. The day includes steady climbing, long scenic sections, and rewarding descents.

Key climbs include Kukastunturi, Homevaara, and the slopes of Pyhätunturi. Midway, we stop for lunch by the beautiful Lake Pyhäjärvi.

Arrival in Levi marks the end of the long traverse. In the evening, we relax at Lake Immeljärvi with sauna rafting, dinner, and overnight accommodation.

Day 5 – Levi Bike Park or alternative program

On the final day, you can choose how to finish your Arctic adventure, depending on your energy level and interests.

Option 1: Levi Bike Park
Spend the morning riding the award-winning Levi Bike Park, either independently or with a professional downhill guide. Lift-accessed trails range from easy green flow routes to challenging black and enduro lines, all set against stunning fell scenery.

Option 2: Paddling on the Ounasjoki River
Experience a calmer but equally memorable adventure by canoeing on the Ounasjoki River, Europe’s longest free-flowing river. Paddle through peaceful river scenery and enjoy Lapland’s wilderness from a whole new perspective.

Option 3: River rafting with a car tire
For a more adrenaline-filled finale, try river rafting with a car tire. Float through foaming rapids in an inner tube, guided by professionals — a fun and unique Lapland experience to end the week with a splash.

If you prefer a slower pace, you can also spend the day exploring local life and culture in Levi.

We gather one last time for a farewell lunch, share highlights and stories from the journey, and say goodbye before onward travel.
