Levi is more than a ski resort in Finnish Lapland. It is a place where Arctic nature, changing light, and quiet strength shape everyday life.

Located 170 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, Levi welcomes around 750,000 visitors each year. Despite its international popularity — with nearly 75% of guests arriving from abroad — the village remains compact and easy to navigate. Everything is within walking distance, and just beyond the last streetlight, wilderness begins.

A Village Guided by the North Star

Long before Levi became a modern travel destination, people arrived in the village of Sirkka guided by the North Star. The Polar Star — Stella Polaris — has symbolised direction in the northern sky for centuries. It helped travellers navigate across unknown landscapes and reminded them that even in darkness, there is something steady to follow.

Today, that same feeling remains. Standing beneath the vast Arctic sky, you can sense how closely life here is connected to nature and light.

Winter in Levi – Silence and Scale

Winter is the longest and one of the most defining season in Levi. As Finland’s largest ski resort, Levi offers 44 slopes, 26 lifts, and 230 kilometres of cross-country ski trails. The infrastructure allows thousands of visitors to enjoy the fells each day, yet the atmosphere often feels calm and spacious.

Step slightly away from the slopes and you’ll find untouched snow, silent forests, and frozen lakes stretching into the distance. The Arctic landscape has a way of making everything feel both larger and simpler at the same time.

One of the most unforgettable winter experiences is the Northern Lights. On average, the aurora can be seen around 111 nights per year in this region. From late August until April, clear skies may reveal green waves dancing above the fells. During the darkest months, displays can appear as early as 5 pm, often reaching their strongest intensity between 8 pm and 1 am.

Eight Seasons of Light

Levi is shaped by light more than by calendar dates. Instead of four traditional seasons, locals often speak of eight.

There is the deep blue polar night, when daylight barely rises above the horizon. There is bright late winter, when the returning sun sparkles on snow-covered trees. Spring skiing combines longer days with excellent snow conditions. Summer brings 45 nights of midnight sun, when the sun does not set at all. Autumn, known as ruska, transforms the fells into red and gold before darkness slowly returns and the aurora season begins again.

Each season changes the landscape — and the experience.

Nature at the Heart of Everyday Life

The wider Kittilä region reflects the scale of Arctic nature. There are more than 700 lakes, 10 fells, and around 12,000 reindeer — nearly twice the number of people. World´s purest air fills every day of the year.

Tourism supports hundreds of local businesses, yet nature remains central to everything. For the people of Lapland, nature is not only scenery but something to respect and protect. It teaches patience, resilience, and appreciation for small moments.

Whether you are skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, cycling, or standing still under the night sky, the connection to the landscape is always present.

Experience Local Lapland with Polar Star Travel

With Polar Star Travel, you are invited to experience this connection in an authentic way. Step onto a frozen wilderness lake, explore snowy forests with snowshoes, or search for the Northern Lights away from artificial light. In summer, hike under the midnight sun or cycle along quiet forest trails.

Levi is easy to reach — just 1 hour and 20 minutes by flight from Helsinki, and only 12 minutes from Kittilä Airport to the village. Yet once you arrive, the pace of life feels different.

The North Star still shines above Levi. It once guided travellers across unknown lands. Today, it guides visitors toward Arctic nature, meaningful moments, and a slower rhythm.

We invite you to our home hills like a long-lost friend.

Welcome to the village.
